Itasca County Historical Society is located in what formerly was the Corcoran Building, we now have the museum, gift shop, Karjala Research Genealogy and History Center, and our storage which has over 50,000 artifacts, archives, photographs and library items.

Our newest exhibit “River Room” is an interpretative site on the Great River Road Mississippi River Tour. It showcases steamboats, early ages, the Dam story of Blandin Paper Company, the Charles Smith Chippewa Indian Legacy, Wild Ricing, Showboat and the current River Walk. The Garland Exhibit tells of Frances Ethel Gumm (Judy Garland) as her family lived in Grand Rapids and managed the local theater. The museum  Itasca Logging, , CCC Camps, Nashwauk-Cooley Model Trains, American Indian Niimi’idiwin, Itasca County Schools, and many more……

Research Center

Ancestry.com is available to the public and members in the Karjala Research Genealogy and History Center. This program enables the amateur or professional to research the web for family members. Itasca Genealogy also has a vast collection of materials pertaining to Itasca County genealogy which includes; Itasca obits, engagements, marriages, births, service records, old telephone & city directories, digitized county newspapers, digitized pictures and Itasca County cemetery index books. Volunteers are working hard to upload Itasca County cemetery pictures of grave markers to findagrave.com.
