The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd

601 Cole Ave., Coleraine

Erected in 1908, this log building is Coleraine’s oldest church. It is one of the few log structures that has continued to serve its original purpose into the late 20th century.

Like other buildings in Coleraine, it was part of the Oliver Mining Company’s town plan. The church was constructed for use by company management personnel and came to be a major social center for them.

John C. Greenway, district mining superintendent, personally supervised the church’s construction, as he did many other Coleraine buildings.

Pine and birch logs were used from nearby forests and magnificent stained glass windows grace each of the facades.
